I had to go to Atlanta Georgia recently on business. The reason for the trip was less than pleasant but since I had to go at all I took advantage of the situation and was happy to meet with Family in Georgia. Back in the 1990's I got in touch with Brian Flatley. Correct that to say that Brian Flatley contacted me. This was before the availability of the World Wide Web and email as you now know it. Brian and I were members of CompUServe. Look up the history to learn more. Brian searched for other members named Flatley and cross referenced New Jersey. My name came up and we have kept in contact since. Brian wanted to do a Family Tree, so did I. That's another subject. In 1994 there was a Family Reunion in North Arlington. I invited Brian. He couldn't make it but informed his parents of the event. Jimmy and Jean Flatley were able to make it to the event and I am glad to have had a part in them being there. Now, let me explain who these Flatleys are. Buckle yourself up for this trip. David Flatley (Poppop's Dad) born in 1865 married Mary Winifred Burke born in 1868, in Leeds England in 1884. Of their several sons and daughters there was David J. Flatley born August 24, 1890, my grandfather, Poppop to many of you, and there was also James J. Flatley, born February 8, 1900. James married Lillian S. McMahon in January 1925 in Newark and they both gave birth to James Joseph Jr., May 13, 1926 and Doris Winifred Flatley, Jun 8, 1932. James married Jean (Mary Jean Mellen) in 1948. Brian James Flatley was born in April 1964. So to put in prospective Brian is my second cousin. Now Brian, Doris, anyone, did I get this all right? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it's needed. Anyway I finally got the chance to meet with Brian after all of these years and also met his wife Deborah and Brian's Mom Jean at the Peach Tree Dinner (maybe a little cliché but a nice place) in Roswell Georgia. We had a great time. I want to share some pictures with you. My camera was in the car but Brian was smart enough to bring his into the restaurant.
Brian and myself. Absolutely no resemblance, right?
Me, Brian Jean and Deborah
