Forgive my lack of normal balance and
clarity. I have a few Black and White Photos that I scanned. Here they are. While I'm waiting for your
photos, stories or other input, I welcome you to view whatever I can scrape
up. Instead of telling you who these people are, I'll let you guess first.
The second from the left is my Dad, Sergeant Thomas J.
Flatley of the 77th Division.
Who might these people be? What might they they
be doing? What year (approximately) is it?
Geri gets it
again. Jackie and Geri, me (Tom) you and my mother are getting ready to
color Easter eggs, you can see the eggs and the vinegar on the table, the
coloring is in the cups. This is in the kitchen on second street before
it was remodeled, on the second floor.
Geri
Ok, this picture is somewhat in the shade. I know
some of these people, but not all. Chances are nobody knows them
all. Jackie, Geri, got an answer?
Geri got it. Jackie's first
communion, me, Jackie, Kevin, Susan and Patty Lynch.
I found this picture recently. This is my Dad and one of his
life best friends Ike clowning around for the picture. No GIs were
harmed in the making of this Website. Dad talked about Ike all the
time. They were best buddy's throughout WWII and friends for many
years afterward.
I found this one in Dad's private collection.
It's a double exposure and it's somewhat haunting. I'm sitting sort of
blended with my Dad and I have a Kevin on each side. Geri and Jackie
look like the two little singing girls from some Japanese monster movie.
Colleen, of course, is launching into party on mode.
Here's one of farmer Kevin, his little sister Colleen
and their dear friend Elvis Costello with holes in his socks. I wonder how
many hits this page will get looking for pictures of Elvis Costello and
finding me instead. Maybe
I should have said Buddy Holly. Nice holes in the socks. Hey,
guess what? I had the look first, they copied it from me.
This is the Women's Auxiliary or the Ladies Auxiliary
of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Sgt. William Sawelson Post 340,
Harrison. There are a few notable ladies here. I think I see
Veronica Lake and Audrey Hepburn, no wait it's my sisters Geri and Jackie.
This must have been taken in the early-mid sixties. Jackie, Geri,
can you identify anyone else here? How about you other Harrison
girls? Do you recognize anyone? And just where was the VFW
anyway?
A few of you remembered that that the VFW was at the end of 5th Street
by the footbridge over the railroad tracks into Kearny. Kathy
Flatley Pandorf tells me that the two girls on the left are the Snodgrass
twins. Both Jackie and Theresa tell me that the left of Geri is
Denise Derocker. Theresa also tells me that blonde, kneeling woman
is Merle Coolican. Ready for more? Jackie thinks
the girl directly behind Geri is Kathy Doffont and the girl to Geri's
right is Carol Mulrennan. Theresa thinks the girl in the back row,
second from right is Maureen Vaskis.
My thanks to Timmy for sharing this picture.
I know I
have this picture in is my house and I recognized it when Timmy sent it to
me but for the life of me I couldn't find the picture or identify it.
Fortunately, that is what this web site is about, communicating and
sharing. Once again Timmy is sharing with us. Thanks once
again Timmy.
Well my sister Jackie was the first to tell me this was Uncle William
(better known as Wimpy) born in 1918, after my Dad and before Aunt
Rosie. "Wimpy", Sergeant in the 638th Tank Division, was killed in action
on April 7, 1945 the Netherlands just 30 days before
V-E Day.
Here is a fantastic picture of Nanna, Anna Flatley,
David's (Popop's) wife, my Father's Mother, my Grandmother, born
Anna E. Molloy on June 14, 1891 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England and died on
July 4, 1963 in Harrison New Jersey. Nanna was born on Flag Day and
died on the Fourth of July.
My thanks to Pam McKniff for this long
lost photo. Pam is the daughter of John and Mary McKniff. John is
the son of John McKniff and Rose Molloy. Rose was Nanna's younger sister.
Pam found this photo in the proverbial shoebox in the closet and sent it
to me to share with us all. The original caption on the back of the
photo was "To Rose with best love, Annie".
Does anyone have any B/W Photos that they
want to share? If you can't get them scanned I can, send them to me.
